Well, the Nester is having a party. And I love parties. Now I can't really say I'm an expert on lamps...not even close. But I am slowly learning to appreciate just how great lamps are. So I'm still a bit of a lamp virgin, but I do have two that I definitely love! And a few more that do the trick and are kind of fun.
My husband, perhaps not so much. This was our discussion the other day when I brought home a lamp from a garage sale.
Rob: "What do you need another lamp for?"
Holly: "I think on one of my blogs, the lady has like 44 lamps" (Whoever you are, I apologize if the number is totally off, I thought it was in the 30-40 range).
Rob: "What kind of husband lets his wife have 44 lamps? Do you even know how big my house would have to be in order to allow 44 lamps?"
Holly: "Do you really think the husband knows exactly how many lamps his wife has? I mean how many lamps does your wife have???"
Rob: (In a sigh of defeat) "Right..."
So anyway, below is my "lamp collection" (if you can even call it that!). Nothing as snazzy as some I have seen while going through some of the Lampapalooza posts. I have to say, my fave favorite is
this one, on Hammond Haven. LOVE IT!
So yeah, the before picture. Slightly hideous, non?

Read it and weep, 25 cents...and then they just gave it to me for FREE! Even better, although I was totally prepared to pay 25 cents.
(*I like how in the first picture the shade totally hides the mess of dishes on the counter. The second one totally gives it away!)

With the lampshade promptly tossed in the garbage, two coats of Krylon flat white spray paint...and voila. Oh, and a shade, I've had this one for a while. I think its too short for this lamp, but I love the subtle pattern on the lampshade. This will go in one of the kids rooms.

Next, I needed to pay homage these IKEA kid's lamps. One hung above each of the kids beds. Don't have a picture of Abbi's, but her's is the pink flower. Love it! They are so fun, so affordable (like $9 each) and make great night lights.

Finally, my top two lamps. This first one I got at a garage sale for $1. I'm pretty sure its IKEA. I adore the wicker shade, and its shape. Its on top of our TV cabinet right now.

This is the bigger picture of our TV cabinet. Definitely a work in progress. Rabbit ears are definitely not design worthy!

This is my dining room chandelier. Also IKEA, and also a garage sale find. $10. I love it!

The drama of the chandelier has caused Rob to hate it. I brought this home, quite pleased and asked Rob to hang it the same day. First he had to re-wire part of it (it definitely pays to have a handy man around). Then in the process of hanging it, it dropped and shattered all the little lights - which meant a serious glass shard clean up. Then once it was finally hung, we realized the top piece was too small for the hole in the ceiling. So then after a trip to Home Depot (and Rob unscrewing all of it). He put up the medallion, then had to re-hang it. Whew. It was tiring just watching the entire scene!
So anyway, after all of that, I suppose he has the right to hate it. But still its highly fabulous. And now I'm seeing all these clip on shades. Hmm, that might be my next project. Do you think I should ask the Hubby to help? ;)

Funny post! I love you lamp discussion with the hubby. Men, what do they know about design? I love the rabbit ears! Too funny!
