Receiving Blankets

It all began on Ruth's dining table three years ago. When I was pregnant with Abbi, I wanted some fun, funky receiving blankets. Something big enough to swaddle, funky enough to make a fashion statement, and something easy to make. We had our sewing machines side by side, and Ruth showed me step by step how to make them, and how to make them right. I learned everything I know from her :)

And voila...these were what we came up with!
"Baby Abbi's"
This other blanket I made out of receiving blankets my Mom had for me when I was a baby.
Two or so years later, along came Gabe. As soon as we knew it was a boy, I was off to Fabricland to find my boy fabrics. Maybe its just the girl in me, but I still lean towards the girly fabrics. Now that I have a son the boy stuff is starting to grow on me. Blues, browns, greens...yummy!
"Baby Gabe's"
Last week I had a friend commission me to make some blankets for a friend of hers who is having twin boys this summer. I'm fairly excited about this. I've made quite a few of them for friends, but never for a complete stranger. I have often pondered the idea of selling them, and one day it might be something I pursue. But for now, if you are a good friend, it will likely be your baby gift!

Here are some of my creations. I don't have pictures from all of them (I'm missing "Baby Alex's," Baby Lily's," "Baby Teo's," and "Baby Malachi's"), but these are the most recent ones I've made:

"Baby Kolton" (my current "boy fave")
"Baby Felicity"

"Baby Elliot" (my current "girl fave")

  1. So I love this so much! I love that you could call these designs "baby.. then whatever. Especially Baby Elliot" It's one of my favs too. I'm super inspired by your selling capacity right now. You could call them by baby names, you could do so much with this! And they are adorable!

I was looking at your pictures thinking, Oh I wonder if she'd let me pay her for some of these, then I saw that they are for your friends, pro bono! Yeepee!

Oh wait, now I gotta have a baby. Can't I use them without?

Love Love Love it! Let me know when you have a business name!
