On the mend

Well, my words came back and bit me in the butt! The other day I was at Mom's Group and one lady was talking about how bad of a flu she had over the weekend. The group leader spoke up and said she couldn't remember the last time she had the flu. She said she never gets the flu, but instead just gets a head cold. I agreed. I said, "I never get the flu." (Wednesday morning, 10:30am)

RIGHT...

(Thursday morning, 8:30am). So there I was, not even 24 hours later, with the flu. Or at least some sort of food poisoning. Who knows what it was, but man oh man, was I sick! I felt pretty weird when I got up to nurse Gabe in the night. But when Abbi woke me up for the day, I knew something was really wrong. I told her to go downstairs and to turn on a movie (we taught her that when Gabe was first born so that she could do it if I was nursing). I managed to drag myself out of bed, get Gabe, come downstairs. Plop onto the couch.

I called Rob at first coffee, and told him he needed to come home. Initially I kind of changed my mind, but then I just knew, "Nope, this is bad." So Rob was home by 10:15am. Literally at 10:13am I was in the bathroom, over the toilet...well, you know the rest of the story. Ugh. Thankfully neither of the kids had to witness any of that.

I seriously have a fear of vomiting. I think its the grossest thing, ever! I never threw up with either of my pregnancies, and if I would have, Gabe may not have made an appearance on this earth! The last time I got sick was when we were moving from our apartment to our rental house. I was cleaning out the cupboards, and my stomach just couldn't handle it. Ugh. So its been three years. Not bad, but I mean, why not four years, five years, twenty years? Is that asking too much?

So I was basically in bed all day. There was the odd venture downstairs to nurse Gabe. I had fever, chills, aches. I kept telling Rob how freezing the house was. Being the nice man he is, he turned up the heat, but I was still freezing. Finally by the evening I started going between freezing and sweating. The fever didn't break until the wee hours of the morning.

You know I'm dreadfully sick when I don't even want to eat a blizzard. Last night was the ER finale. Like THE FINALE. Like monumental stuff in TV land. So I had planned to eat a blizzard and partake in this great moment. The blizzard still sits in my freezer. I just couldn't risk letting such a good thing go to waste.

So here I am this morning. On the mend, I think. Still pretty weak and shaky, but getting better. Still don't have much of an appetite. Apparently the flu is definitely a good, yet gross, weight loss plan. After only eating crackers and a few spoonfuls of applesauce for an entire day, I managed to lose 3lbs. Ugh.

Maybe next time if I want to lose weight I should just forgo the blizzard and take a walk around the block!

  1. Glad you're on the mend! I agree, vomitting is awful!
