Fabric Covered Bulliten Boards

Well, the past few days have been nap free, which hasn't allowed me much computer time. Or time for me for that matter. Last night I just needed out of the house. So we put on Abbi's splash pants, put screaming Gabe (not a very content boy last night) in the stroller, and off we went. It was a nice walk, although a little windy.

We found some pretty good puddles for Abbi. She definitely needs to work on her splashing techniques though. Rob and I were like "Jump higher! Kick your feet! SPLASH!" I suppose deep down, the Mother in me rejoices that my kid doesn't really understand how to jump in puddles, but the kid in me is like "Come on, get wet, get muddy, make your Mom regret she ever bought you those pants!!!"
This afternoon, for my brief kid break, I needed to create. To do something - other than dishes. I have been wanting to this for awhile. Yesterday I went to Mom's group at Janelle's house. She is the inspiration for this idea. She used old ceiling tiles for her's, and they look fabulous in her sewing/craft area. Brilliant woman! Someone was giving away an old bulliten board on Earthcycle, and it was just a few blocks from her house. So I picked it up on my way home.

Step 1: Ugly old bulliten board, or a ceiling tile, if you happen to have some...
Step 2: Get some fabric. This was 3 pillowcases from Zellers. About $1 each. I had thought I would use them to make the valance for Abbi's room, but the pattern was too busy for that purpose. I think it is so cute!
Steps 3-5 ish: I didn't photograph, mainly because I was using the Hubby's hand saw thing in the basement, probably not how I should be using it, and well, no evidence means no trouble, right?

Basically I just cut the bulliten board (which was surprisingly easy to cut) into the sizes I wanted. Then I took the fabric, cut it about 1-2" bigger on each side, ironed it, and stapled away. I couldn't find the staple gun (seriously, the tool area needs a little "lady love!"), so I just used your average old stapler. Worked fine. Then I took some raffia from the bounty I have to make a hanger.

And voila, 4 little bulletin boards to hang in Abbi's room to display her artwork. Although, really they are so cute on their own. I want to find little white knobs to hang them on the wall, which is why they aren't hung up yet. This took just over an hour, and reallyits such a simple way to pretty up a bulliten board!
