A Carpeted Basement!

Yup, its true. My basement floor is now covered with carpet! No more of the ugly red painted floor. I gotta say, I'm pretty much over the moon about my new floor. Of course the room isn't fully completed, but its getting so close, and who cares...we have carpet!!!

Next on the list will be the baseboards, which I hope to get painting possibly tomorrow afternoon (still from the stash that Rob picked up off a job site a few years ago, right before they were going to be sent to the dumpster. Sweet score!). And hopefully this weekend we can rent a truck and pick up all the doors for the basement. A total of three doors, and one bi-fold is a fairly large haul. Thanks to Airmiles we've pretty much got it all covered.

While going to and from my course earlier in the month, I just happened to walk past Can-Am Interiors and Carpets every day on my way to class. I decided to peek in one day and just look into carpet installation stuff. I seriously knew nothing, and I probably still know nothing, but at least I know enough that I now have carpet of my own. We paid $1250 for all the carpet and installation, which I think is a pretty fab price. We have great quality carpet and a high quality underlay. So worth it!

So without any further adieu. Remember the ugly red floor?
Here it is now. Doesn't it look a gazillion times better? And the room seems so much more balanced. Its actually pretty crazy how close the color of the carpet and paint are to each other. Impressive when you consider we were dealing with a 4"x4" square sample.
Remember the old 1970's flecked carpet on the stairs? With no carpet on the risers?
Check 'em out now. Wowza!
A picture of the landing at the bottom of the stairs. Now we just need some doors and baseboards, and voila, a finished room!
During the installation I didn't get down to take many pictures, but I did get a quick shot of the upper stairs, pre-carpet.
Post carpet. Beauty.
Abbi was fairly fascinated with the "boys" who were helping fix the basement, and could often be found chatting them up. Here she is sitting at the top of the stairs telling them all about the "Little Bear" episode she just watched.
Once the job was done, you could find the entire family prancing across the room, enjoying the superb underlay. This is the kids taking a break.
Rest assured, Gabe can now fall down the stairs and suffer just a little less injury.
So yes, we are one excited Nepper family. Now we start deciding the furniture we want to fill this room with. I'm still on a mission for the perfect desk for cheap. And I'm now moving my sights from a futon to perhaps a hide-a-bed. And of course, I want to make a kids area where they can have their toys. A new room to decorate...yippee!

PS. If you haven't already voted for us Neppers, we could sure use your votes in the Shandro Photography contest (which closes June 30th at midnight). We are holding steady at 20 votes behind, so at this point, every single vote counts! http://blog.shandrophoto.com/2010/06/20/free-family-photography-contest-finalists/
