In our second edition of Saskatoon week, I thought I would share some fantabulous houses that we happened upon in our few short days there. The actual city was established in 1906, so some of these houses could possibly be 100 years old, although I would guess many were built in the 1920's to 1930's.
This is the place that we stayed at. The Alpha Mercy Haven B&B. Yes, its a bit of a mouth-full! There were a few design aspects of this house that were fairly confusing, mainly the second entrance on the right hand side, that actually entered into a part of our bedroom. The quirky things that happen to old houses...
The most adorable house across the street. I love the red door. I love the stone. I love the paint color. I just plain love it!
We walked along Saskatchewan Crescent, which the road right above the river, so it had an incredible view, and some beautiful houses to boot. We actually happened upon the original B&B that I had nearly booked us at, that was until I read the reviews. We lovingly coined the place "Crazy Grandma's." I had already called and asked about availability. She phoned back while I was reading the reviews. I didn't answer.

The worst B&B Travel experience ever.
Upon arriving, Mari (the owner/operator) greeted us at the door with "who are you?" - which I don't think appears in the handbook of how to properly greet paying customers.
Among other deficiencies, the mattress in the room in which we stayed might have been dragged from a dumpster, complete with rodent-eaten holes.
Better than sleeping in the street? Yes. A romantic, comfortable getaway? No. It's like staying with a crazy grandmother who won't leave you alone.

You can now understand why I didn't answer the phone. Ugh, shudder.
Here are some lovely homes along Saskatchewan Crescent. Crazy Grandma's not included!
Very nice. Indeed.
