A Fab Day.

My yesterday was pretty great. I have to admit. Seriously great. Our day started off by skipping preschool. It was just too rainy and gloomy to fathom leaving the house that early. So we skipped school, and instead went on an downtown adventure. Now that the LRT connects down to 23rd Ave, its remotely close to our house. So we parked our car (for free), and took off downtown. With only me having to pay $2.75 for my fare, its a bargain worth of fun! The kids love the train.

We got off downtown and met Gammy for lunch. This is always a treat for the kids. Although I do remember in the not too distant past when my children were much more civilized in this type of social situation. No longer. Gabe is running in all directions. At one point I was trying to keep Gabe from literally running into a pond/fountain, all the while trying to keep the stroller from rolling away with Abbi in it. Sigh, oh those glorious days of old!

So its chaos. Good chaos. Well, most of the time good chaos. I was fairly exhausted by the end of our little outing, but Gabe finally fell asleep on the train on the way home. So Abbi and I got to enjoy our ride...in peace. I think it was fun for the kids, and I always figure that something out of the norm every once in awhile is the memory making stuff. I personally have very few memories of the routine things of life, but I do have many fond memories from trips my family took, or places we went.

In the evening we ordered in some Vietnamese food (we usually order in on pay day). Now to all you readers who think eating "exotic" is ordering in Chinese, I challenge you to try some Vietnamese. I have yet to have a bad Vietnamese experience. The food is so fresh, flavorful, and the best part? Non-greasy. And overall pretty healthy. I'd guess MSG free. We order from a little place close to our house called Noodle Xtreme. It may be a chain. Regardless, the restaurant often full when we go to pick up our order, and the food is amazing. I took some pictures to tempt your taste buds. Seriously, give Vietnamese a whirl one of these days!

Spring Rolls - $7.95
(*Yes, they are deep fried, and yes, there was some pork in there, but still stinkin' delicious. And if you are paying any attention that means we defaulted on Meatless May, but we claim sheer ignorance. We had no idea it had meat until halfway through!)
My meal. Shrimp Vermicelli - $11.95
(*I actually divided it up, so I'll have some for lunch today too) Rob's meal. Veggies on Rice - $10.95
And finally, the best part of any Vietnamese meal? The hoisin sauce. I ordered extra.
Once the kids were in bed we had our friend Jenn come over. Jenn truly is lovely. She just sat on our couch and watched TV so we were able to go out to our friend's house to watch the Grey's Anatomy season finale together. Normally I go over alone, but we figured for such an event everyone had to be in attendance. Of course a stop at Dairy Queen for Blizzards is essential before any such TV watching. Let me tell you, if you are a fan of the show or not, it was seriously the best TV I've seen, possibly ever! It was so intense, but kind of like murder mystery stuff that just keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It was a 2 hour finale and the good stuff just kept coming and coming. Oh I loved it. It took me forever to actually eat my Blizzard because I was so tense, but yeah, so good. I almost want to watch it again tonight.

So all in all, a great day. Good food, good friends, good TV. All an excellent combination. And a great way to start a long weekend. This long weekend is looking pretty ugly around here (lots of rain). But that's all good as we have lots of basement stuff to do. The two main goals are to get the paint on the walls and get the drop ceiling hung. Then we need to get our electrician to come around and hook up the lights (hopefully next week that can happen). Hopefully I'll have some good progress pictures to share! Happy long weekends. Enjoy!

  1. I didn't hear the verdict, Did your blog go public?

Your day sounds fantastic indeed. I also remember the times we broke with tradition and did something out of the ordinary for the day. I remember it feeling so clever and sneaky. And so much more fun!

Can't wait to see photos of the basement!
