This morning Abbi and I started singing the song, "Slippery Fish" from her music class. It includes a number of actions throughout the song. Well, lo and behold, I look over and our little Gabey is doing the actions along with us! Now I have never made a point to teach him that song, and he would have only seen it being acted out in her music class over the past couple months (we maybe went 9 times out of the 12 weeks. It ended at the beginning of December). So even though the music class was for Abbi (or at least I thought it was), Gabe apparently also picked up quite a bit from it.
Like seriously, it was one of the most adorable things I've seen in a long time. He puts his hands out beside him and moves them from side to side (like swimming). Then you say "gulp, gulp, gulp...oh my!" at which point you put your hands on your cheeks (like a shocked face), and he is right into it, putting his hands over his mouth. Then when it gets to the barracuda verse, he's in there like a dirty shirt, clapping his hands together (like little jaws). Oh my word, that's one way to just melt your Mama's heart!
This little boy has just been on a roll lately. Said his first word "dog" a few days before Christmas. Then on Christmas day he took his first steps (with all of us in the room watching, while we were opening our gifts. Talk about timing!). In the last month he has also picked up quite a few signs, which has helped us immensely in communicating with him. It really is incredible how much their little minds can process. Its just that their vocabulary isn't there yet, so sign language is a great way to break that communication barrier. He can sign "milk" (clenching your fist, almost like milking a cow), "please" (patting your chest/belly), and "more" (he pokes one finger into the palm of his other hand). He also understands "eat" (putting your hand to your mouth) and "all done" (clapping your hands together them dropping them to your side). Geesh, and we thought Abbi was smart!
So there you have it folks. Some good old fashioned Mommy gushing. And I figured just for a added touch, I would include the lyrics to Slippery Fish. You never know when the urge might hit you...
