I was thoroughly impressed. Now don't get me wrong, like any thrift shop, it has lots of junk, but also lots of good stuff if you are willing to look. Basically its the city's last ditch effort to keep stuff out of the land fill and Eco Stations. So apparently its lots of things that you wouldn't normally be able to donate or recycle, although I'd say most of it could still be found at your local thrift store. Go figure? But the catch? The price! You pay $4, for all of it. I mean like I walked out of there with a banker's box brimming with goodies. For a total of $4! Now that's impressive. They just weigh your stuff (I'm thinking so they can say something like, "We've saved 10,000 lbs from going to the landfill), and then its a flat rate of $4. Now I'd say any thrifter can save their pennies for a $4 shopping spree no mater what kind of budget they are on!
So here are some of my fab finds...
Some binder dividers (Boring I know, but I totally needed some).
A Christmas garland.
Three adorable mini Christmas trees. Tee hee.
Two strands of outdoor blue icicle LED lights. Those alone made up for the $4! And yes, they work! Now I just have to wait until it isn't -38° so I can hang them!
A fun collection of old Christmas cards. I'm thinking this would be a fun way to be thrifty, and also eco friendly for next year's Christmas.
I adore this pink card. Very old indeed!
I also found some fun old Christmas & gift wrap.
I'm loving this uber 70's wedding wrap! Now I just need someone to get married so I can use it!
Any takers?
And fabric, well, fabric, let me tell you. They have fabric! Unbelievable. All of it's new (or it least the person just bought it and never used it). So I was able to pick up a whole schwack of fabric. The guy said they have so much fabric, but don't have enough room to display it. So they keep the rest of it in a garage outside...gulp, be still my beating heart!
This red gingham fabric will eventually be the valance over our kitchen window. I'm thinking ivory walls, white cabinets, grey countertops, butcher block top Island, with some splashes of red here and there. Now I just need the time and the money, HAH!
Some great grey corduroy. A skirt perhaps?
I thought this would be great on a bench at the end of our bed. Now mind you, I don't have the bench yet, but it will come, one day, it will come...
I heart this fabric. I'll save it for when I start quilting. You know, when I'm "old."
I love this white cushy fabric. It screams "baby blanket" to me. Or perhaps a rag time quilt.
I have about 3 metres of this one.
Now this fabric I'm fairly excited about. Rob says it was machine knit. Now what to do with it? Too itchy for a sweater, but I love the colors. I have about 5 metres of it. Rob suggested putting edging on it (I'm thinking blue), but then what? Ideas? Suggestions? Tres cool!
Love that blue!
This one I think will be for Amanda. Some gorgeous wool. What do you think friend?
It was made by Penelope on SaltsSpring Island. Obviously I know who Penelope is, don't you?
So there you have it. One hour of my time, $4 from my bank account, and tons of thrify fun! If you are in Edmonton, I'd recommend checking it out. But only if you have a good amount of time to dig!
Tomorrow I'm hoping to join in with the Nester (and probably hundreds of other Bloggers), for her Holiday Home Tour. Now its just a matter of having a clean house, and the time take the pictures and to post them! Hopefully I'll see you then, otherwise check it out. There's sure to be plenty of fabulous Christmas ideas!

Oo that wool looks lovely and soft. I would L-O-V-E it!!
ReplyDeleteShame that it had to travel from Penelope's loom to Edmonton and back to the gulf islands?:)
Then onto my needles, then back to Edmonton to keep you warm, dear!
