5 Years Already???

This past Friday (June 5th), was our 5 year wedding anniversary. Hard to believe its been 5 years. I mean where has the time gone? I can still remember that day, and the days leading up to it, like they were yesterday. Yet, time has flown by, and 5 years is upon us. Next thing I know we will be celebrating our 25th!

Because our wedding photos weren't taken digitally, its taken me a bit of time to scan the photos (hence why I am posting this on June 8th!). Unfortunately our scanner puts a bit of a green tinge on the photos. So I tried to upload mainly colored photos, just because they scan better, but just know our pictures were/are gorgeous. We totally love them! You can check out our uber fab photographers here!

We figured many of our Edmonton folks would never have seen these. Or perhaps those of you who couldn't be there on our special day. Plus, after 5 years its always fun to look back. I mean look at how skinny we were :)

We got married at a place called Country Garden Weddings in Qualicum, BC. It was an older couple who had a pretty spectacular piece of property that they rented out for wedding ceremonies. It was a beautiful site. It was completely outdoors (which was a bit risky on the coast), and it threatened rain all day, although I think there were only a few sprinkles.

The joke (that wasn't entirely funny at the time) was how me and the bridemaids were 45 mins
late for the ceremony. Yet, I had prepared a wedding day itinerary that was down to the minute. Literally!

Er...

I really can't say what happened. I think we all got so caught up in the getting ready bit, time kind of got away from us. Plus, we were driving through torrential rain on our way there! Thankfully that didn't follow us to the ceremony.

So yeah...45 minutes late...sigh, I think I set a record!

Here is a shot of our two flower girls. So pretty!
These are some ceremony shots. The boys are on the left, and the girls are on the right of the shelter.
Some of the more formal pictures on the grounds.
I wanted to show a color shot of the bridesmaid's and the flower girl's dresses. We did a teal silk dupioni fabric. The girls each designed their own dress. The photographer also sewed these dresses - she's one talented lady!
My dress design was from the second Lord of the Rings movie. It was worn by Eowyn. Can't name the exact scene now, but she's standing on some castle and the boys are riding off into the sunset to conquer someone. You know how it goes...
We saw this movie at the theatre, and in this scene, both Rob and I leaned over and said, "Wouldn't that be a gorgeous wedding dress?" And it was! Rob's Mom sewed it, which must have been fairly difficult seeing as how I had only two fittings, and lived 5 hours away! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
On the grounds, they had this sweet little boat on a reflective pond (which I figure is just your basic pond). We went up there a few weeks before the big day to check out some good places for photos. During our visit, we spotted a black bear on the far side of the pond. Thank goodness he didn't show up for the big day!
They also had ths rustic old bench for photos. Some of my favorite photos were taken here! Look at the fabulous colors in my bouquet!
We went down to a little creek bed on the property for some more photos. The lady who owned the property was not too keen on this. She was quite convinced I would fall in or someone would break something. But I'm glad we did - we got some great photos here too!
Some family shots...
My Mom and I. Doesn't she look gorgeous?
I love this shot of Rob and his Dad. So suave!
Rob and his best friend, Jason - the best man. My best friend, Lynn, was the Maid of Honour.
Once we were done taking pictures, we still had a bit of time to kill until the reception, so we did what Canadians do...we went to Tim Horton's for a coffee and a goody!
I don't think its very often an entire wedding party takes over a Timmy's!
The reception was a lot of fun, and much dancing took place. The shot below is of my Dad and I dancing to Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl." That is definitely "our" song, although the zipper on the back of my dress came down twice during that one dance. Thankfully I didn't show too much skin, and I don't think too many people noticed, or at least I hope not!
This is my sister and my niece. Hard to believe she was the same age Gabe is now at the time of our wedding! How time flies!
The customary cake cutting. I'm definitely the kind of girl who smushes it in the groom's face. Poor unsuspecting Rob!
We spent our wedding night at a local B&B. The funny part was that in the planning of everything, we somehow managed to not bring the address for the B&B. So I'd say it was about an hour before we actually found the place. Here we are, two newlyweds, driving all over Long Lake trying to find it! Fairly comical looking back on it now.

The next day we had a gift opening at my parent's place, and the day after that we headed down the coast to California. It was a super fun, super crazy road trip. We are definitely the road trip type, so it was right up our alley! We were gone for around 2 weeks.

And here we are, 5 years later. 2 kids. 2 cats. A condo. And a whole schwack of stuff in between.

We didn't do much to celebrate this year, mainly because Rob had just been off of work for a week for Abbi's surgery. But we were able to have a nice steak dinner, candles, romantic music...
Did I mention that two kids were at the dinner table???
Regardless it was still nice, just a touch louder than I had hoped!

This is the bouquet Rob came home from work with...gorgeous!
Hope you enjoyed just a few of our pictures, and heck, if you've got an hour, or two, I can show you more ;)
