Did you guess it?
...Yellow Polka Dot Bikini!
And no, much to your dismay, I will not be modeling such an item. Ahh yes, my bikini wearing days are likely done, although I did have a bit of a penchant for them in my younger days.
No, this post is actually about my current love for all things polka dot. Seriously, its one of the most classic, recognizable, cute patterns EVER! Generally associated with little girls (er, have you see a polka dot that works for boys?), its pretty much timeless.
It all started with the bowls shown below that I spied at Safeway. I've got to say, they have some of the best home decor type stuff (usually dishware). Seriously, I bought my last dish set from there. The trick? Wait until it goes 50% off. So I waited, and waited, and then waited some more for these bowls to go on sale. Yes, they were $4 each, not a fortune, but I ended up getting 4 of them for $6 once they were on sale. Not too shabby, I say!
Polka dot adorableness...
*I love that the inside of each bowl is the same color as each one of the dots. It took me going to three stores to get the right colors, but I'm quite pleased. Technically I'd love a set of 8, but I figure they make good ice cream bowls, and its not often we have 8 people eating ice cream at once.
Next, high school friends of mine just had a baby girl. Ahh, yes. Little girls. Seriously, I find it one of the best things in the world to dress and decorate for a little girl. So when I get the chance to buy something for one, I'm a pretty happy lady. So I picked out the outfit below. I don't think they read my blog (shame on them!), so I can get away with posting some pictures. And no, I do not promote 1 year old's wearing white shorts, and I offer no tips on how they are to keep these shorts clean! Regardless...they are adorable with the blue polka dot shirt :)
In keeping with the polka dot theme, and now to coordinate with their brown, teal and green nursery (I got my other friends to give me the down low on the nursery colors), I found the fabric below, which I think goes smashingly. Now to find the time to sew 'er up!
Speaking of receiving blankets. When Abbi was born, my cousin and I worked together to make 4 blankets for her. And thus began my love for adorable, two-sided, receiving blankets. Below is one of the first ones I ever made, the color combo was perfect, and yes, you guessed it, polka dots!
*The best part was that a friend with a daughter who is 3 months older than Abbi received the exact same blanket as a gift, from her MIL in Winnipeg! I suppose this says that Fabricland's inventory is pretty similar across the board, but also that someone else has excellent taste! So we looked rather cute at church with our two girls snuggled up under the same blanket. Uncanny really.
Rob's Mom is also hip with the polka dot theme. For Abbi's 4th birthday she made up a little outfit, and the little gift bag you see below. Pink and polka dots, does it get any better? Abbi uses this bag to house her current selection of dolls.
So yes, I'm a big fan of polka dots. They make me happy. They make me think of simpler times. And yes, they make me think of the song...

Take a listen. I dare you!

I accepted the dare. I don't think I've ever listened to the whole thing before. Very risky. Now I'm sure to have it in my head the next 3 days.
