No, I'm not taking up bee farming...or I suppose the proper word is beekeeping. My friend Amanda seems to do well enough at it for the both of us. No, we are busy bee home renovator types. Yes, we are still working on the basement, as it seems like our never-ending project around these parts. Although I'm glad to report it looks like we will be done before the 1 year anniversary hits! This weekend I've been busy painting the doors, the baseboards, and the casings. Its a bit tedious, but the weather has been nice, and we have a nice big patio umbrella to provide shade if I feel the need for it. Although with two weeks straight of daily thunderstorms, I've been soaking up all the sun I can...while I can!
So in addition to all my painting I've been busy sewnig up a storm. I say this is full on baby season. This also happened the year Abbi was born. In our church alone I believe there were 12 babies born in one year, and most of them in the summer months. So here we are 4 years later, and I know an incredible amount of people having babies! So I'm stocking up. Our friends are having their baby this week (via Ceserean) so I'll be getting one off in the mail to them soon. I'm leaning towards a girl, but we'll wait and see. Then two school time friends are also having their firsts. One already had a girl, so I've got to sew that one up, and in a few weeks we'll hear about the next one (which I'm leaning towards a boy).
I've also been busy dreaming about home decor. I know. Its like summer and DIY projects are synonymous to me! I made a considerable screw up the other day that has actually worked out pleasantly in my favor. Instead of purchasing a new tin of White Semi-Gloss paint (for the doors and trim), I somehow managed to buy the White Accent Base paint. The unfortunate part is that I only discovered this after trying to apply a coat to one of the doors. It was very watery, so I was suspicious, but naively hoped for the best. Well, nope, I was dreadfully wrong. So now I still have to go out and buy a White Semi-Gloss tin, but it also means that I now have the paint to makeover the downstairs bathroom (I just have to return to the store to get it tinted). I just have to decide on the perfect blue. A fairly fabulous mistake if you ask me ;)
And of course, like always, I've been busy with school. I would say Political Science and I aren't fighting as much as we used to. Still though, the terminology is enough to make a person's head explode. I mean is there any need to create a gazillion new words, and if not words, new meanings for old words? Its a very wordy science. Although I'm really liking my teacher. He is passionate and excited about what he is teaching, and I really appreciate his teaching style. Lots of opportunities for discussion. And if you don't get it, he is willing to work it through with you until you do.
Seriously though, here are some of the words I've been learning of late...
Legal-rationalism
Panopticon
Civic Republicanism
Deterritorialization
Transplanetary Linkages
The Neo-Liberal State
Flexibilisation (one of my personal faves)
Seriously, while I can't say its not a "science," I can say that someone had far too much time on their hands to be coming up with such crazy terminology. Its sometimes mind numbing. Although I did manage to get an A on my first midterm, so perhaps Poli Sci and I aren't all that opposed after all!
Last night Abbi and I did the count down until our trip to Nana's. 22 days. Not too shabby. So we marked in on her calendar and we will start talking about it more and more. I think we are all looking forward to a getaway. Looks like Rob has picked up some work while we are there pouring concrete for a friend, and I'll be in be in Victoria for a week of school, so not all "relaxation" but still, its always nice to do it in a different place. We are looking forward to some summertime lovin' - good friends, food, beaches, and family. And not to mention, my week in Victoria is kid-free...so that's vacation enough for his Mama!!!
Isn't it amazing how summer just chugs along? Rob is quick to remind me that the snow will fly in 12 weeks. Sigh..
