Beaners Fun!

Now for those of you who have been taking your kids to Beaners for years, don't mock me. For some reason I just never thought I "needed" to take my kids to Beaners. Oh wait, what is Beaners? For those of you who don't know, its a hair salon designed specifically for kids. So I've always thought, what's the big deal really?

But lets be serious, Abbi was starting to look quite raggedy and my skills as a hairdresser were seriously lacking. So I knew it was time to take the plunge. In the past we have tried to go to your basic salon, only to have Abbi put on a screaming fit just getting her in the chair. Then the cape came out, and lets just say it was a lost cause...

So we walked into Beaners and instead of hairdressing chairs they have race cars, Barbie cars, ponies and elephants, and I immediately knew we were in the right place. My previously terrified daughter got to pick her own seat, and climbed right up.

The entrance. There is one in Sherwood Park (where we went), St. Albert, and apparently there's even one in Nanaimo!
Abbi of course chose the black pony...
Yes, there are flat screen TV's with movies playing. It was Disney's Cars. Smart, smart, smart!
This is my daughter saying "cheese" yet refusing to look away from the mirror.
Her pre-haircut raggedy self...
They couldn't get her to keep her head down to cut the back, so another hairdresser grabbed a bucket of beads and got Abbi to show her different colored beads. Um, slightly brilliant, I say!
Our hairdresser was exceptionally fast. I guess you have to be with little ones, but boy did she get the job done! Less than 5 minutes!
A quick blow dry...
..and our new and improved Abbi. You can actually see her face again!
Included in the most fabulous price of $14.95, we got her hair cut, an elastic and a hair clip, sparkle spray, and the grande finale...a lollipop. Not bad, not bad at all!

So yeah, I am no longer a Beaners naysayer. I just took me a little while (cough, cough...er, 3 years!) to come around, that's all. We will definitely be returning. Even though its in Sherwood Park, its still only about a 15 minute drive from our house.

And the best part? Abbi's first real haircut (not with Mommy in the bathtub) was a really positive experience. Hip, hip, hooray!
