Colorful Blessings Party: Red

When I saw this party on Hattie's blog, Little Red Roost, I knew I had to join in. The first color to celebrate is red, and that just happens to be one of the accent colors in my living room. So I knew I'd have some red fabulousness to share!

In Hattie's own words, this is what the party is all about:
"Here’s what I’m thinking, for six weeks in a row we’ll have a little party here at the roost to celebrate the blessings in our homes that represent each color of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. You can share one photo or many. You can choose to share anything in your homes, from décor items, to dinner, to plants in the yard, anything is fair game. The only rules are that you have to share why you’re thankful for/blessed by the items in the photos, and you can’t buy anything new just to feature. I love the idea of looking closely at the items that are already in our homes, and expressing thanks for all the blessings we have."

Sounds good to me. With no further ado, some "red blessings" that I found around my house...

First of all, my living room curtains. I LOVE them. I had been eyeing them up at Home Depot for quite sometime after we had moved into our new house, but at $50 per panel, it seemed like a fairly frivolous expense. But when my cousin Ruth gave us a Home Depot gift card as a house warming gift, I knew exactly the first thing I would buy! So I'm blessed to have people in my life who bless us in such extravagant ways!
I love the texture. Its so rich!
Next on my list are my throw cushions on my couch. Again, I love them. I picked them up off of kijiji for $20. Yes, you read that right. $20 for 4 pillows that the lady bought for nearly $70 per pillow at Finesse! It was funny the timing of the entire thing. I had seen them, knew I loved them, but for some reason didn't follow through. But when I checked online to see if they were still there a month later, they were, and they were $5 less than what she originally had asked!
So these pillows remind me of my ability to be thrifty and ultimately the opportunity I have to even decorate my home. What a cool time that we live in that we have so many resources available to us, and we can be so creative in decorating our homes.
I love the detail. Just gorgeous!
This throw blanket I picked up at Zellers for $14. Originally in the $34 range. Again, another good bargain. It is so soft, and I grab it every time I sit down to watch TV.
How blessed am I that I have a home, a couch, a TV, and a fuzzy warm blanket to snuggle up underneath!
Finally, because I'm starting to decorate for Christmas around here, I thought I'd share one of my fave red decorations. My Starbucks mittens. I worked there during Christmas 2007. Now if any of you got a Starbucks gift card in your stocking that year, it was likely in one of these mittens. Well, at the end of the season all of the items were going to be thrown out, so I basically took home my entire store's Christmas decorations. Yeah, I know, unbelievable (first of all that they throw it out every year, and secondly that I got such a sweet score!). So these most adorable mittens remind me of how blessed I have been both by found free things and people's generosity.
A close up. Adorable!
There you have it, some red blessings around Nepper's Landing! I look forward to sharing some orange blessings next week! Head on over to Hattie's to see some other red blessings!

  1. I worked at Sbux that Christmas too. I think I scored some of their bright red boxes. But I didn't get any mittens. Funny thing though, my friend Roslyn uses one of those starbux mittens as her wallet. Love that girl!:)

  2. Yup, those mittens come in handy. My friend Frances uses hers as her cell phone carrier. Fairly adorable. I can't believe Rob wasn't down with carrying the cell phone around the work site in one...
