Favorite Thing #66: Cinnamon Buns

What have I chosen to blog about tonight? My first food love, cinnamon buns, of course. Now I'm certainly no connessieur, but I'd like to think I know a decent cinnamon bun when I taste one. Not to mention, I have no lofty hopes or aspirations of ever making my own (seriously...it takes hours, I don't have hours). I'd far rather pay a decent sum of money to some lovely baker to make the deliciousness for me.

I'd say I found that baker. In the most unexpected of places. The Old Town Bakery in Ladysmith, BC
So what makes these cinnamon buns so special? Well, I imagine there is some sort of secret recipe going on here. BUT...the kicker? They put almond slices between the layers mixed in with the cinnamon mixture. I mean why has no one thought of this before? Its sheer genuis. And its incredibly delicious. Plus they have a bunch of other varieties. I mean also genuis, right...more than one type of cinnamon bun. These people need a medal!

Below are the three varieties we purchased. You can get 6 of these giant cinnamon buns for a mere $15!
Top left: Peanut Butter. Top right: Original. Bottom: Blueberry/Candied ginger. Are you not drooling?
Of course, no respectable bakery gets accolades from me without serving a seriously good cup of brew alongside its oh so delicious cinnamon buns. Old Town Bakery did not disappoint. They serve a locally roasted coffee by Peaks Coffee Co.

And they go above and beyond simpy serving the best cinnamon buns I've ever tasted (as if that wasn't enough). They also sell a variety of other types of tasty goodness.
If you want the best cinnamon bun experience of your life, in a quaint little Island style bakery, make sure to stop in Ladysmith. Get there early in the day though, as I have heard they are often sold out by noon. They'll have a mug waiting for you...

  1. Mmmmmm... And yes, I have YET to make a successful batch of cinnamon buns. Very time consuming and tricky! Also, thought of you today when I made my second batch of your DIY Laundry Detergent. So thankful again that you posted it so long ago!
